Sustainable Innovation Month - Fostering Innovation Action

Pedoussaut Olivier, Dassault Systemes, Sept. 22, 2023 –

Innovation and Sustainability are part of Dassault Systèmes DNA but September 2023 embodied this commitment even more, throughout the month, various set of activities such as 2Tons workshops, discovery sessions about circularity and a Worldwide Sustainability Speaker Series Conference are being organized to showcase how innovation can be a vector to create a new generation of sustainable electronic devices.

During the course of the month, we tried to develop an awareness of our digital responsibility (as electronic devices are essential parts of our lives) and encourage individual and collective actions.

Week after week, participants have been confronted to the magnitude of the e-waste problem and had to find innovative ways that can lead to a more sustainable industry by designing and manufacturing durable and repairable devices, reducing waste, and lowering their carbon footprint.

They discovered that Virtual Twins can be used to simulate different production scenarios and identify ways to reduce waste and energy consumption:

  • Manufacturers of smartphones can create a Virtual Twin of their manufacturing plant. This Virtual Twin can be used to simulate different production scenarios and identify ways to reduce waste and energy consumption.
  • Manufacturers of laptops can design laptops that are easier to repair and recycle. Our 3DEXPERIENCE Sustainable Innovation Intelligence (Life-Cycle Assessment solution) can be used to analyze the environmental impact of different materials and components and to identify ways to reduce the use of hazardous materials.
  • Manufacturers of solar panels can use a Virtual Twin to track the performance of their solar panels over time. This data can be used to identify ways to improve the efficiency of their solar panels and reduce their environmental impact.

On September 28, we will also present some very actual and concrete initiatives where our partners, IBM and TactoTek, are putting their sustainability goals into action.

This month will not be just about learning, we all be actively participating, looking for solutions, exchanging about sustainability, collaborating to assess and reduce our environmental and societal impacts, soon realizing that we are all actors of the change and how much we can influence the transformation of our society, starting by tackling the E-Waste challenge.
